Tokyo Jihen To Disband In February

After being together for nearly 8 years, Tokyo Jihen will be disbanding at the end of February.

The band made the announcement on January 11th on their official website, leaving messages to their fans before disbanding.

"I want to thank everyone who enjoyed this band...Tokyo Jihen will disband this leap year, but out music will forever be immortal," frontwoman Ringo Shiina stated.

Tokyo Jihen was formed in May 2004 around the vocals of Ringo Shiina. After 7 years and 9 months, 7 singles and 5 albums together as a band, Tokyo Jihen will conclude their activities together with a tour titled "Tokyo Jihen live tour 2012 Domestique Bon Voyage" in February.

Mukai Osamu gives Kitagawa Keiko 100 blue roses at “Paradise Kiss” stage appearance

On June 4th , the stars of “Paradise Kiss” (directed by Shinjo Takehiko) took the stage at theMarunouchi Louvre movie theater in Tokyo to greet their fans at the first public screening at the movie.

Actress Kitagawa Keiko (24) wore a white dress with a single silver lamé strap. During the event, her co-star Mukai Osamu disappeared from the stage, and reappeared with 100 blue roses for Kitagawa, exciting the audience with the “surprise” scene.

“It was a hot summer (during filming), and we had a lot of promotional events, but you got through it. Good job, Yukari,” Mukai said, touching Kitagawa’s hair. Seeing this, Igarashi Shunji, who plays the cross-dressing character of Isabella, playfully bit his handkerchief. For the fans, it was like seeing their favorite movie come to life.

“Paradise Kiss” is a story about a high school girl who, under the influence of some new friends, dreams about becoming a model. When asked about her dreams as a student, Kitagawa said, “Since I liked going to the doctor, I always admired the people working there. I wanted to become a doctor or an astronaut”.

“We spent August to October of last year, slightly longer than normal, taking our time to film this movie. I have been waiting for this day, when we can finally bring the movie to you all”, Kitagawa said, full of emotion.

Attending the first public screening alongside Kitagawa, Mukai and Igarashi were Kato Natsuki, Omasa Aya, Kaku Kento, and Director Shinjo. The movie is now open in theaters nationwide.

Who are the highest-paid actresses for dramas?

Japanese tabloid “Shukan Jitsuwa” was able to gather some info on Japanese actresses during Golden Week and recently published a detailed list of the current market situation.

The list ranks the actresses in relation to the minimum fee they get paid for appearing in a drama series per episode. In addition to the fee, reporters also managed find out the potential ratings that are expected from them by TV stations. Of course, the market value changes depending on the actress’ popularity and her recent success, but right now Yoshitaka Yuriko seems to be the most expensive actress one can cast for a drama.

The list clearly shows that a high fee doesn’t equal high potential ratings. For example, Shinohara Ryoko gets paid a lot but still has to prove her profitability after a longer break from acting and a bad decision to make her comeback via a Kimura Takuya drama. On the other hand, women like Fujiwara Norika and Matsushima Nanako simply get paid a lot just because they’re worth it, not because they’re outstanding actresses that can attract a high number of people.

It should also be taken into consideration that sheer success doesn’t determine one’s market value. The relationships between the agencies and TV stations are a highly influential factor as well. TV stations can’t try lowering the fee if the popularity of an actresses suddenly decreases; it would hurt their relationship with her agency and future collaborations.

Looking at Yoshitaka’s current value, it’s interesting to know that by the beginning of the year, she started out with a minimum fee of $18,550 USD. However, her recent exposure in the “GANTZ” movies and her extremely popular CM for Suntory’s whiskey brand, “Torys Highball“, boosted her potential rating as well as her market value. Only Ayase Haruka has a higher potential rating.

Aragaki Yui and Nishikido Ryo to star in next “Getsu9″ drama

Actress Aragaki Yui will be playing the lead role of an international lawyer in the upcoming July drama, “Zenkai Girl” (translation: “All Out Girl”). NEWS/Kanjani8’s Nishikido Ryo will play her love interest in the Fuji TV’s “Getsu9” slot (Monday 9 PM) drama.

Despite playing the lead in hit movies like “Koizora” and “Hanamizuki“, Aragaki has surprisingly never played the lead role in a drama series. However, she’s acted in the coveted “Getsu9″ slot in the past, when she played a young doctor in “Code Blue” .

This time, Aragaki will play Ayukawa Wakaba, a young international lawyer and a “career woman”. When the story starts, she is told to take care of the daughter of her boss (played by Yakushimaru Hiroko). Nishikido plays a divorced dad with a son who meets Wakaba on the way to the kids’ kindergarten. Although the two fight each other at first, eventually they begin to like each other.

The drama’s producer commented, “Aragaki-san’s unquestionable cuteness and oozing clean image was absolutely needed for Wakana’s intense character.”

Filming will be starting in early June, and Aragaki remarked, “(Wakaba is) an ambitious career woman who is fixated on success, and a type that I haven’t played much in the past. (She’s) a very strong-willed character, but I want to act while having fun.”

Yamashita Tomohisa causes his fans to faint on his Asia Tour in Taiwan

On May 22nd, NEWS member Yamashita Tomohisa finished up his solo tour in Taiwan. He was welcomed by legions of fans when he entered Taiwan, and he left them swooning and fainting when he announced his “Proposal” on stage.

The concert was three days long and sold out almost immediately after tickets went on sale, and total revenue for the stop totaled over 1 billion yen. During his second day, Yamashita waved, shook hands, threw kisses, and provided other forms of fan service to the 5,000 screaming fangirls.

During the talk portion of the concert, a fan asked him how he would propose to his future bride. He replied by saying “I want you” in English, causing fans to scream.

Yamashita started his Asia solo tour in January, where he made stops in Hong Kong, Seoul, and Thailand.

His Taiwan show was originally supposed to be in March, but was postponed because of the earthquake. The May 22nd live was the last stop before he returned to Japan to finish up his tour on the 29th.

Ashida Mana to become the youngest radio host ever, tops mobile charts

Today it was announced that six-year-old child actress Ashida Mana, who can currently be seen starring in the drama “Marumo no Okite“, will become the youngest girl ever to host a radio show.

Ashida’s radio show is called “Children’s Day Special – Ashida Mana’s Favorite Songs” and will air on Nippon BS, also known as JOLF, at 11am on May 5th. Her charming voice and cute talking in between the songs is bound to make it a really enjoyable show for every listener.

Meanwhile her debut song, “Maru-Maru-Mori-Mori!” – a duet with fellow child actor Suzuki Fuku (6) for the above-mentioned drama, has rapidly been climbing up the mobile download charts since its release on April 24th. Last week the mobile musical portal Recochoku announced that the soothing song managed to take over the first place in their weekly “TV/CM/Movie – Song” ranking.

Fukumura Mizuki, one of Morning Musume’s newest members, sat down to talk with De☆View about her thoughts about their latest single and her audition experiences.

Fukumura began her Hello! Project career as a part of Hello! Pro Egg, a group of trainees, and was chosen in January to join Morning Musume, a group she had always admired.

Question: Please tell us the reason you decided to audition for Hello! Pro Egg!

Ever since I can remember I’ve always really loved Hello!Pro; I bought a ton of CDs and DVDs and was a big fan!

The first one that I bought was a Minimoni CD, but I especially liked Berryz Koubou. Of course, I also loved Morning Musume and C-ute, and before I realized it, I had started to think, “I want to join Hello! Pro too.”

Actually, before I tried out for Hello! Pro Eggs, I was in a contest called “Kirarin☆Girl Contest” and I got runner-up. At that time, the girl who got the grand prize was in the magazine “Chao”, and when I saw that I was so frustrated. I thought, “I definitely want to beat this girl!” and “I want to join Hello! Pro!” That’s when my mother told me about the Egg audition.

Question: As a member of Hello! Pro Egg, you had dance and singing lessons, but what do you feel is the area you were most able to grow in?

I think my sense of rhythm got better. I’ve been told that I went too fast, but I watched out for that, and kept my mind on listening carefully to the music and getting the rhythm right.

With singing, I tried to keep in mind the meaning of the lyrics. When you really turn into the main character of the song, those emotions just overflow. Even though I was sure that I was putting a lot of emotion in, I was told that it didn’t really seem like it… I still haven’t really improved yet, so that’s my challenge.

Question: Last year you took on the Morning Musume audition; do you have any memories about it?

During the judging, a girl next to me was crying, and it just made my nervousness go through the roof. Even though I practiced so much, the lyrics left my mind, my notes were off, and I was way worse than usual. That’s why when the results were announced, I never imagined it would be me… I was so in shock, I couldn’t feel anything.

Question: Right now you’re doing activities as a member of Morning Musume, but how have your feelings changed from right after you passed the audition?

Lately, little by little, I’ve begun to be able to see myself as a member of Morning Musume, but after all, it still feels unbelievable to be having lessons and filming with my seniors that I’ve looked up to for so long… (laughing) Every single day is just like the beginning, so without realizing it, my heart is always beating fast! They always used to say, “Eggs are trainees, but members are pros.” I think I have to do my best to see myself as a pro.

Question: Your first single as a member of Morning Musume, “Maji Desu ka Ska!” has finally been released, hasn’t it?

When I first heard the demo tape of this song, I was so happy that I couldn’t stop smiling. (laughs) When I was in Shugo Chara Egg (a unit she performed in as an Egg), we only had an album song, but this time to be able to be in a single, and then a music video, made me really happy!

Question: How did your first recording as a member of Morning Musume go?

I was really nervous. I have a tendency to sing in a low, dull kind of voice, but this single, “Maji Desu ka Ska!”, is a really energetic song! That’s why I tried to really sing brightly and energetically.

I feel like I did my best, but I wonder how it will sound to everyone else… I was really happy that the 9th generation got to each sing solo lines at the beginning of the song ♪. But listening to our seniors’ part right after, it was really like, “We still have a long way to go…” I felt like, “From now on, I have to try even harder!”

Horikita Maki talks about starting a family at “Umareru.” event

Today actress Horikita Maki attended a special talk event for “Umareru.“, a drama in which she is currently playing the leading role.

The drama’s story about pregnancy at an advanced age raises various topics such as the preciousness of life and bonds of a family. Hayashida Aiko, played by Tanaka Misako, is a 51-year-old mother who gets pregnant again at the age of 51 and Horikita plays her eldest daughter.

First the young actress shared her thoughts about marriage and children. She said, “I always believed that it would be okay to get married and have children at any point in my life, but recently various things let me start to think that it might be better to start a family while I’m still young.”

Seeing how the story of the drama is influencing her own thoughts on the matter, what kind of family is she dreaming of? In the drama she plays the oldest of four siblings, two girls and two boys, and it seems like she is aiming for to start a family just as big. She commented, “It should be a really buzzy family.”

“Umareru.” airs every Friday at 10pm on TBS.

Drama Prime Time Report – April 25th~27th

Last week I praised “Shiawase ni Narou yo” for having one of the highest rated premieres due to a widely appealing cast compared to recent Monday dramas, but what is this? A second episode with a loss of 4.5%? It looks like people were really only just intrigued by the cast and hoped for a new and fresh story, but were quite disappointed by the first episode. Will Fuji TV’s Monday time slot ever live up to the expectations of being the most prestigious drama time slot again? “Hancho 4” lost a couple of percentage points as well.

The majority of the Tuesday dramas also just aired the second episode, but none of them experienced a huge drop like “Shiawase ni Narou yo”. In fact, only one of them, “Madonna Verde“, experienced a change beyond 0.5%, and it was a positive one at that. Unfortunately, all of those dramas are only somewhere near the 10% mark, not counting the late-night drama, but at least they have a steady and loyal group of viewers – so far!

The figure skating championship started on Wednesday, but luckily it wasn’t yet time for the women to get on the rink, and thus “Iryu Sousa” actually managed to compensate last week’s loss with a very nice and entertaining third episode. Aibu Saki’s new drama, “Rebound“, also was able to attract a lot of viewers despite the figure skating, 14.3% to be exact, and the first episode definitely was able to arouse some interest. Let’s wait and see whether I was not the only one who thought that way.

Golden Week started on Friday, and therefore the ratings for Thursday won’t be released until next week.

In case the ratings aren’t available, the shows get marked with a ??.?% rating. This doesn’t mean that the ratings were too low to be recorded!!!

Improvements and declines will be illustrated with the use of several icons. The colors and the numbers indicate how much the ratings have changed.

An orange color means almost no change, while a red color means the ratings dropped, and a green color means the ratings improved.

“Bokura ga Ita” to get film adaptation starring Ikuta Toma & Yoshitaka Yuriko

It’s been announced that Ikuta Toma and Yoshitaka Yuriko will star in “Bokura ga Ita“, which is a film adaptation of the popular manga. This will be the first time for Ikuta and Yoshitaka to co-star alongside each other.

“Bokura ga Ita” is Obata Yuki’s ongoing manga on “Betsucomi“, and it tells of a pure love story between a couple who met in high school. It tracks their growth over 10 years, following their time during high school, college, and professional career days. The story will take places in Hokkaido and in Tokyo.

Ikuta will play ‘Yano Motoharu’, a popular guy with a shadow in his heart due to his ex-girlfriend’s death through a car accident. Ikuta commented, “This may be the last time for me to wear a school uniform, so I would like to enjoy the sweet and sour school life.”

The heroine Yoshitaka plays is named ‘Takahashi Nanami’, who falls in love with Yano, and tries to accept the shadow in his heart while loving him sincerely. She commented, “It’s a wonderful and well-loved manga which has been read by many people, so I will try my best to play the role without betraying the fans of manga.”

Meanwhile, Takaoka Sosuke will play the role of Yano’s best friend, ‘Takeuchi Masafumi’, and Nanami’s classmate will be played by Motokariya Yuika.

The shoot for the movie will start in May, and it’ll be released as a two-part film in spring of 2012.

Actresses Inoue Mao (24) and Nagasaku Hiromi (40) attended the opening day stage greeting of their movie Youkame no Semi at the Piccadilly 1 Theater in Tokyo's Marunouchi district on the 29th. Recochoku recently held a survey, asking users to submit the songs which best fit the theme of Mother’s Day.

Coming in first place was Ikimonogakari’s 2010 hit “Arigatou,” which also won the top spot in a previous poll about users’ favorite “thank you” song. The popular ballad won votes with its sincere and straightforward lyrics, which express a person’s gratitude towards a loved one.

The second place spot went to YUI’s song “To Mother,” a gentle piano ballad whose message is also directed towards a special someone. When asked about their choice, voters left comments, saying, “It’s song meant for her mother, and it even has it in the title,” and, “Just like how YUI-san packed her feelings into this song, I want to present it to my mom, who’s really important to me.”

Barks goes behind the scenes of S/mileage’s “Koi ni Booing Boo!” PV

Music news website Barks went behind the scenes of S/mileage’s PV “Koi ni Booing Boo!“, and have just recently revealed their exclusive photos for fans to enjoy.

The PV was actually shot in February, a few months prior to the release of their single on April 27th. During the day of the shooting, the girls were experiencing some troubles with allergies but pushed on as energetically as usual.

Filming for the PV began early in the morning, with the dance shot, solo shots, photo sessions for the image cards all taking place with the same day. Despite the hustle and bustle of the day, the members of S/mileage stayed cheerful, chatting idly with one another between shots and smiling with all their might while having their pictures taken.

One fun moment on set included an ad-libbing section, where the camera was laid on its side. The director yelled instructions such as “Jump!” and “Be weird!”, making for a hilarious performance from the pig-eared and pig-nosed girls when the scenes were reviewed on the monitor.

“In the music video, the pig on our badge appears a lot, and jumps over everyone’s heads,” said Ogawa Saki. “Since you never know where he’ll come out, please pay attention to our pig!”

A giant message board was left at the Shibuya Tower Records store, allowing fans to express their love towards the celebrated singer-songwriter Utada Hikaru.

“Thank you for all the messages overflowing with left on the message board. ^o^”, tweeted Hikki’s official staff Twitter, along with a photo of the large board. A closer look at the “Message to Utada Hikaru” area reveals drawings of bears, long paragraphs, and multiple hearts — a sure sign that fans already miss her dearly.

The response to the message board was so overwhelming that her staff posted a second message on their Twitter, giving fans another opportunity to reach Hikki. The staff is currently thinking up a way for fans to send their messages in the form of a note, which will then be given directly to her.

Utada Hikaru herself appeared very touched by the message board, tweeting, “Something like this at the Shibuya Tower Records!? Thank you so much everybody!”

Nakashima Mika starts her nationwide tour

Singer Nakashima Mika held a live concert at Nagoya Congress Center which was the first concert after she made a comeback from her hiatus due to Patulous Eustachian tube. The concert was the first day of her nation-wide tour “MIKA NAKASHIMA CONCERT TOUR 2011 [THE ONLY STAR]“, and it’s been about 2 years for Nakashima to hold nation-wide tour.

She performed total 19 songs including her masterpieces, as well as her latest song “Dear” (released on April 27th). Nakashima received many of “welcome back” cheers from the fans, and could not hold her tear back saying “I’m really grateful that this many people came to my concert even after 10 years since my debut.” As she said, this year is the 10th year anniversary since her debut, and she confessed that she did not expect she would be able to pursue her carrer as a singer for 10 years when she just started.

Nakashima will make round in 25 cities and hold total 32 stages.

Matsuda Shota, Sasaki Nozomi star in “Afro Tanaka” live-action film

Noritsuke Masaharu’s gag manga series “Afro Tanaka” is getting a live-action movie adaptation. Matsuda Shota (25) will star as the afro-haired protagonist, while model Sasaki Nozomi (23) will play the heroine of the story.

The “Afro Tanaka” series, which runs in Big Comic Spirits, started with “Koukou Afro Tanaka” in 2002-2004 and was followed by “Chuutai Afro Tanaka,” “Joukyou Afro Tanaka,” and the current “Sasurai Afro Tanaka.”

The manga revolves around Tanaka Hiroshi, an afro-haired boy who transfers to a high school in a fictional city in Saitama, and his everyday life with his friends. The various series followed him as he left school, moved to Tokyo, and began working. It is not yet known which time period the movie will focus on, but filming is said to already be close to done.

“Afro Tanaka” is being directed by the young Matsui Daigo (25), who debuted as a screenwriter a couple years ago, when he became the youngest ever to write for an NHK drama series (“Futatsu no Spica”). He then directed part of the Fuji TV drama series “0 Go Shitsu no Kyaku.”

The script for the movie is written by Nishida Masafumi (“Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora”).

Theatrical release is scheduled for 2012.

Oguri Shun and Nagasawa Masami aim for the top of Mt. Everest for “Gaku”

Oguri Shun (28) and Nagasawa Masami (23) visited Mt. Okuhotaka in Nagano prefecture on April 27th for the mountain opening ceremony. This is in relation to their upcoming movie, “Gaku“, set to be released on May 7th.

The movie is about mountain rescue, and the stars of the film have climbed and spent a lot of time at Mt. Okuhotaka, so its opening location was incredibly appropriate. Along with the ceremonial rituals, they prayed for a successful hit for their movie.

Oguri commented, “The mountain is powerful. It was fun climbing it and I never felt pain and suffering from it.” He suddenly shot a question at Nagasawa, who seemed to be caught off guard, asking, “You said you would climb a mountain right?” Nagasawa immediately answered, “Of course! My goal is to climb Mt. Everest! Oxygen free ascent…. but it would be impossible so suddenly.”

Recochoku recently held a fun poll, asking its users to choose an artist that they felt best suited the image of a teacher.

The person with the most votes was Yusuke, the multi-talented singer and actor. When asked about choosing Yusuke, a majority of voters replied with comments such as, “I’d like to see him teach some kind of sport with his natural reflexes!” and, “He’s good at sports and loves children, so he could teach about the importance of sports.” Other voters praised his friendly, positive personality.

Drama Prime Time Report – April 22nd~24th

Horikita Maki’s new drama “Umareru.” began airing on Friday and it captivated 11.2% of the viewers in its time slot. The rating for the first episode is within the average of TBS’s Friday dramas and depending on the upcoming episodes it should be able to achieve an overall average result as well. Hopefully it will be more closer to “SPEC” (average: 10.5%) than “LADY” (average: 8.7%), the previous two dramas that aired in this time slot.

“Inu wo Kau to Iu Koto” lost 1.0% compared to last week and is now in the difficult situation of becoming one of the least popular recent Friday night dramas. It definitely may not lose anymore viewers next week or it’s going to become a very bad season for Nishikido Ryo. They have to aim for an average above 8.0%.

The only big highlight on Saturday was the broadcast of the drama special “Young Black Jack” starring Okada Masaki and Naka Riisa. The reception was great, people really loved the show and with 13.3% it even managed to beat the “Nodame Cantabile” movie that aired at the same time.

As expected last week, “Gou” lost a couple of viewers again, now that NTV is back to their regular Sunday programming, but 18.0% still sounds a lot better than 15.7%. One can hope that “Sekai no Hate Made Itte Q!” will grow stronger again. One hour later “JIN 2” failed to manage to repeat the huge success of its two-hour special last week, but that would haven been too much to ask, even for this series. With 18.4% it’s still more popular than NHK’s taiga drama. It will still be interesting to see whether “JIN 2″ will really be able to achieve high ratings near the 20% throughout this season, since it’s a completely reversed situation compared to the first season. Back then it was sleeper hit with a decent start, also thanks to the popularity of the character of Sakamoto Ryoma, that steadily managed to gain more and more viewers. This time it has to deal with a huge hype and extremely high expectations that might be difficult to live up to. On the other hand it might even be able to exceed those expectations…

Trying to compete in JIN’s time slot, “Marumo no Okite” is offering us a completely different drama starring the adorable child actress Ashida Mana. It’s only the third drama in Fuji TV’s new Dramatic Sunday time slot, but it already surpassed the premiere episodes of “Perfect Report” and “SCHOOL!!” The latter achieved an average of 9.2%, which should not be that difficult to beat. However, it is Ashida’s first drama starring role and she has yet to prove that she is really old enough to lead a drama throughout a whole season.

Takei Emi is 11 years older than Ashida, yet they are both on the same level when it comes to drama starring roles. Her drama “Asuko March!” did okay with 7.5%, previous dramas didn’t really had a better start, and as long as the ratings stay above 7.0% she should be satisfied with her first starring role.

In case the ratings aren’t available, the shows get marked with a ??.?% rating. This doesn’t mean that the ratings were too low to recorded!!

Improvements and declines will be illustrated with the use of several icons. The colors and the numbers indicate how much the ratings have changed.

An orange color means almost no change, while a red color means the ratings dropped, and a green color means the ratings improved.

Mukai Osamu

Cobs Online has just revealed the results of its latest poll, asking readers which celebrity blog they like to (or would like to) read the most.

Coming in with 15.4% of the votes is actor Mukai Osamu, whose official blog can be found here. When asked why they chose Mukai, voters responded, “Mukai-san writes a lot of intelligent things on his blog,” “Since I’m a fan of Mukai Osamu, I’m happy when he attaches pictures every once in a while,” and “I’ve liked him for three years now, so I always read (his blog).”

Second place was tied between singer-songwriter Utada Hikaru and model Rinka. Utada fans loved the positive way of thinking that came through in her blog entries, and found that her blog entries are as funny and honest as the tweets on her official Twitter. Meanwhile, fans of Rinka praised her for looking fashionable and cute even when not on the job.

Just two days ago, it was reported that X JAPAN leader YOSHIKI’s beloved crystal piano had surpassed the 30 million yen ($360,000 USD) mark on Yahoo! Japan’s Charity Auctions. Now, bids for the coveted item has past the 6 billion yen ($73,000,000 USD) mark, a truly amazing feat! Because of the ridiculously high bids, we’re hoping that the bids are genuine and aren’t troll bids.

As all proceeds from the sale of the piano will be donated to areas affected by the recent natural tragedies, it looks like one hardcore X JAPAN and/or YOSHIKI fan could possibly be donating much of his/her fortune to a much needed cause, surely doing a great part in aiding Japan in its recovery.

Matsuyama Kenichi & Koyuki are married!

It’s been revealed that actor Matsuyama Kenichi (26) and actress Koyuki (34) registered their marriage on April 1st, and are already living together.

According to both of their agencies, the couple already reported their marriage to the people that are close to them, but the announcement to the public was delayed under the consideration towards the disaster victims.
The couple first met each other back in 2008, when they co-started in movie “Kamui Gaiden” (released in 2009), and since then they have grown their love very openly.

Koyuki isn’t pregnant yet, therefore, she will keep pursuing her career.

Earlier, AKB48’s Maeda Atsuko posted an entry in her blog about buying taiyaki (a fish-shaped treat filled with bean jam) for her dog Hunny, whose birthday was the day before yesterday. She had been doing a shoot at a pet shop when she decided to buy the treats for her dog.

However, Maeda continued to write that once AKB48’s leader Takahashi Minami saw the treats, she also wanted to eat them. “For some reason, Takamina wanted to eat them, so she did”. Not only did Takahashi eat them, she even called out, “They’re so delicious!”

Maeda was left perplexed as she finished up her entry, “It seems like it’s okay for people to eat them once in awhile… So, I guess it’s okay. Yeah~ It’s a mystery.”

Berryz Koubou achieves first #1 on Oricon Daily Chart

Berryz Koubou’s newest single “Heroine ni Narou ka!” ranked #1 on the Oricon Singles Daily Chart on March 6th. The single jumped to 1st place from it’s 9th place ranking on the previous day, giving the girls their first #1 on the chart.

“Heroine ni Narou ka!” was released on March 2nd and it beat out other big name artists who released singles on the same day (Akanishi Jin’s “Eternal” at #3, No Sleeve’s “Answer” at #4, Porno Graffitti’s “EXIT” at #6, and IDOLING!!!’s “Yarakai Heart” at #9), as well as AKB48’s “Sakura no Ki ni Narou” (#5) and Arashi’s “Lotus” (#2), which were released earlier.

Berryz Koubou’s last 11 singles have all ranked in the top 10 on the weekly charts, and it’s looks like “Heroine ni Narou ka!” will extend that record. Congratulations to Berryz Koubou for this achievement.

Akanishi Jin tops Oricon Weekly Singles Chart

It was revealed today that Akanishi Jin is #1 on the March 14th edition of the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart with his solo debut single “Eternal.”

In just the first week alone, Akanishi sold 217,000 copies of his single, marking the first time a solo artist’s first week sales exceeded 200,000 in 2 years (the last time was in 2009 when Yusuke’s “Himawari” sold 219,000 copies).

Akanishi takes the top spot from the March 7th chart’s #1, Arashi, who are his seniors from the same agency.

AKB48 displays five new Hewlett Packard laptops

On the 7th, Hewlett Packard Japan (HP) announced its five new laptop models.

To show off the new laptops, AKB48 members Kojima Haruna, Miyazawa Sae, Takajo Aki and Yokoyama Yui were selected as the CM characters.

The estimated cost of the 5 models are anywhere between 40,000 yen to 60,000 yen (~487 USD – ~730 USD) and on April 7th they will begin selling the “HP Mini 2010-2100 Special Edition” laptop in pink plaid to gear it towards female users. The battery life for the special edition is 8.5 hours and shops are predicting it to be around 50,000 yen (~609 USD).

What is AAA’s most popular PV?

J-pop group AAA opened an official YouTube channel earlier this month, but instead of posting all of their videos in full, the co-ed group decided to open a special poll. Fans were to pick and submit their favorite AAA music videos from a list of previews for a chance to see their favorite PV in its entirety.

On February 15th, a video featuring members Nishijima Takahiro, Hidaka Mitsuhiro, and Uno Misako was uploaded onto AAA’s YouTube, revealing that “MUSIC!!!” was the winner of the poll.

Nakagawa Shoko’s newest single will be a “sakura song”

Nakagawa Shoko will release her newest single, “Sakurairo”, on March 23rd, and it will be her 13th single.

It will have been around eight months since the release of her last single, “Flying Humanoid”.

“Sakurairo” will be the first “sakura song” for Shoko, and the music video is said to revolve around a school’s music department and the ending will be bittersweet. The lyrics of “Sakurairo” were written by meg rock, who also wrote the lyrics to Nakagawa’s song, “Sorairo Days”.

In addition to that, Nakagawa Shoko will be going on a nation-wide tour called, “SHOKO NAKAGAWA Live Tour 2011 Tenkatouitsu!”, starting on March 27th.

Popular actress, Inoue Mao celebrated her 24th birthday on January 9th with a special surprise!

While shooting for NHK’s upcoming morning drama “Ohisama“, her castmates decided to deliver a special birthday cake for their “Toshionna.” In Japan, a ‘toshionna’ is a woman who celebrates her latest birthday on her Chinese Zodiac year; since 2011 is the year of the rabbit, Mao’s cake was decorated with 24 chocolate rabbits.

Mao said happily, “As ‘Toshionna’, I want to take larger steps like a rabbit!”

The actress posed for some pictures with her castmates, Mitsushima Hikari and Maiko, before they sat down to devour the cake.

Visual Kei band Versailles would appear with Koike Rina in a mini drama, “Onegai Kanaete Versailles“, which will start on January 17th. Well just recently, the teaser has been revealed!

In the teaser, you can hear a preview of Versailles’s new single, “Philia” (will be released on March 16th), which will be used as its theme song. Although each episode will be just five minutes long, the fans won’t want to miss it since this is the first time Versailles will have made an appearance in a drama!

GReeeeN to sing theme song for Universal Studio Japan’s 10th anniversary

Universal Studio Japan (USJ) has announced that popular group GReeeeN will be singing its 10th year anniversary theme song. It’s been a while since GReeeeN has released a new song, as they haven’t been very active since they last released the album “Shio, Koshou” in June of 2009.

USJ stated the reason why they commissioned to make a song with GReeeeN was that GReeeeN’s activities until now suit well with USJ’s 10th anniversary project theme, “Happy Surprise!“, and also, the members are big fans of USJ.

The title and the release day have not been decided yet, but the new song will be used in the CM for USJ, and will also be used as a BGM (background music) in the park, as well as for the attraction, “Hollywood Dream the Ride.”

USJ’s 10th year anniversary event will be held from March 3rd, 2011 to April 8th, 2012, and there will be a 10th year anniversary live collaboration with Universal Music from March 19th to 21st. Artists making appearances at the live event are: KARA, BEAST, Choshinsei (Supernova), SDN48, and BENI.

“25th Japan Gold Disc Award” names Arashi as the “Artist of the Year”

The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) has announced the winners of “The 25th Japan Gold Disc Award” on January 5th, and Arashi has received the “Artist of the Year” distinction for two consecutive years!

Aside from “Artist of the Year”, Arashi also received five other awards, including “Album of the Year”.

The “Japan Gold Disc Awards” was first launched in 1987 to recognize outstanding artists (and works) that have contributed to recording industry. Awards based on the actual sales number, and 2010’s winners utilized data from January 1st ~ October 31st.

Hirahara Ayaka to use Chopin’s “Etude Op 10 No.3″ for drama theme song

Recently, singer Hirahara Ayaka (26) has announced that she’s been working on a spectacular project.

The songstress is composing a theme song for Funakoshi Eiichiro’s thrilling crime drama, “Honboshi“. Intriguingly enough, she combines haunting lyrics with the melody from Frédéric Chopin’s “Etude Op 10 No.3” (better known in Japan as “Wakare no Kyoku“).

Explaining her creative process, Hirahara said, “While writing the lyrics for the song, I’ve tried to find out the feelings Chopin had while composing this melody. You could say that it was similar to the drama, where the protagonist makes use of mental analyses to expose the minds of other people.”

With many looking forward to Hirahara’s fresh cover of Chopin’s etude, Funakoshi has already declared that he loves her song. “It’s a beautiful song with a lingering sound that summarizes the whole drama,” he revealed.

Hirahara’s version of “Wakare no Kyouku” will be released on February 2nd. The song will also be featured on the popular compilation of classical covers, “my Classics 3” to be released on March 2nd.

Tegomass to release a new single, “Aoi Bench”

A male duo consisting of NEWS members Tegoshi Yuya and Masuda Takahisa, Tegomass has announced that they will be releasing their 5th single titled, “Aoi Bench“, on February 16th.

It’s been about a year and six months since they last released track, when the came out with “Tanabata Matsuri.” The new song, “Aoi Bench”, is a cover song of the male duo Sasuke, which was disbanded in 2009.
